miss unkon rafw spring/summer 2010/11

Posted in RAFW, Spring/Summer 2010/11 by brisbane on May 7, 2010

Well we might be a bit biased, but once again we are amazed by a Brisbane designer’s spring/summer collection at this year’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week! Last night it was Gail Sorronda, and today Miss Unkon has totally impressed us.

With a collection that is a bit edgier than her ultra-feminine collections of the past, designer Courtney Meyer showcased her 70’s inspired range just this morning, featuring pastels and nudes (a very popular colour pallette this rafw) in short shorts, flowing pants and cute dresses, all topped off with florals and frills. We can already see Brisbane gals walking the streets in these ensembles.

Miss Unkon’s Autumn/Winter range is available now at Princess Polly, Adelaide Street, Brisbane City.

‘Wow!’ is all we can say about Gail Sorronda’s Spring/Summer collection, which showed last night at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. Using her signature black and white, Brisbane designer Gail Reid has really outdone herself with a diverse range that offers everything from flowing dresses and sheer tops, to smart suit jackets and feminine skirts and dresses, set off perfectly with huge bead and metal necklaces. The hair styling and hair accessories were amazing and just further added to the collection and what is always expected from this creative designer. We can’t wait for the new collection to hit the stores!

Gail Sorronda Autumn/Winter 2010 – Black Chalk

One of Brisbane’s most innovative young fashion designers, Gail Sorronda, will showcase her Spring/Summer collection at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week this Thursday 6 May at 9.30pm. Inspired by growing concerns such as freedom of expression and information censorship – the collection will illustrate that “Fashion shouldn’t just be another opiate for the masses”. We can’t wait to see it!

The Autumn/Winter collection ‘Black Chalk’ is in store now at Bessie Head.

miss unkon returns to RAFW

Posted in Fashion Parade, RAFW by brisbane on April 23, 2010

RAFW kicks off soon on 3 May,  so  over the next few weeks we will profile the fab Brisbane designers that are part of this week long festival of fashion. First cab off the rank is the gorgeous Miss Unkon, designed by Courtney Meyer.

Last year named as the ‘New Gen standout’ at the New Generation Group Show, Miss Unkon is again returning to the coveted catwalks  with its first individual show. The much awaited Summer collection ‘Love Is Like a Dreamland – A Journey of Young Love’ with be showcased and will feature 1960s inspired girly romantic pieces with hand painted print fabric. “This is a collection to take you down memory lane of young love. Love doesn’t have to be about falling in love, it can be a story of self discovery, adventure and the playfulness of youth,” – Courtney Meyer.

With the show promising to be bigger and even more theatrical than last year, including a team consisting of So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Anthony Ikin, renowned hair stylist Alex Grahl and body artist Becca Gilmartin, the Miss Unkon show is sure to rival the shows of some of the biggest names in Australian fashion.

Miss Unkon will showcase on 7 May  at 11am at the Cargo Hall in Sydney. Go Miss Unkon! We can’t wait to see the parade!

If you need to get your hands on Miss Unkon now – the label is stocked at Princess Polly, Adelaide St, Brisbane City.
